With the help of some friends, we here at The Queerist put together a short video for the Knight News Challenge. We wanted to highlight fun bits of queer art and culture that we’ve covered over the past year. There was a 20 second time limit – we clocked in at 22 – so it’s perfect viewing for everyone in these ADD times. In fact, reading the acknowledgments will probably take you longer:

Events/performers in order of appearance:

Precious Moments + Trixxie Carr at Bulb: Nightclub of the Performing Arts

The Manhattan Prairie Dogs at the 2009 DC Hoedown

Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory Vogue Ball at YBCA

Ham Gramm & the Wham Bam Thank You Ma’ams at SF Drag King Contest 14

Delicio Del Toro + Jay Walker at Chaser

Chubb at IDKEXI

Sundance Stompede 2009

Manhattan Prairie Dogs at Sundance Stompede 2009

The Queertastiks at IDKEXI

with voice over by Leigh Crow aka Elvis Herselvis.

Thanks to Alix and Tom for their help behind the scenes (or rather, in front of the camera), and thanks also to Josh Klipp, Rachel and Chris for their advice and feedback.

Here’s a sweet little piece by the DixxieChixies, an Arizona-based collective of solo performers. While this number is all about drag and burlesque, the performers also have extensive backgrounds in theater, although my guess is that you won’t find them on other stages under their drag names. With Holden Cox, Freddy Foxalot, Anson Reign, Bruta Lee Hott, Pink Sushi, and Miss Tricksie Heart.
